How To Go Eco-Friendly With Sign Printing

As the business world undertakes initiatives to reduce the use of environmentally harmful plastics wherever possible, the printing industry has seen some progressive changes in the application of eco-friendly materials. Eco-friendly printing services are increasingly in demand by customers and by switching to sustainable, renewable materials in your printing processes your business will benefit from this corporate and social responsibility, as well as helping the environment.

Here is some information on the available materials for eco-friendly large format printing and other forms of eco-friendly signage production:

Eco-Friendly Signage Materials

There are now many materials available to use for the printing of different forms of eco-friendly signage including the following:

  • Honeycomb Board – This is a durable, lightweight, and cost-effective material consisting of a honeycomb core with surface covering panels and is often used for Free Standing Display Units (FSDU’s) and store displays.
  • Corrugated Cardboard – This fluted cardboard signage is also widely used for FSDU signage and is incredibly cost-effective to produce.
  • Display Card – This is widely used for the hanging signs often seen in supermarkets.
  • Polypropylene – Often otherwise known as Correx – these materials are thicker substrates and ideal for more heavyweight signage and locations both indoor and outdoor where a more durable and hardy material is required. This material is perfect for digital printing whether your design has full colour photo quality images or just single colour lettering. This form of eco-friendly sign printing is commonly used for construction site boards, event signage and security signs – you will also see them in more retail-style environments such as outside estate agencies, and on lampposts and bollards on high streets.

Sustainable banner printing

Eco friendly banner printing is becoming more popular – until recently there have not been too many viable alternatives to traditional PVC banners, but eco friendly banners can now be produced from materials such as eco mesh which conform to the relevant plastic recycling codes. These sustainable banners are made from either Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) or Polypropylene (PP), both of which can be recycled in environmentally responsible methods. Traditional PVC banners cannot be recycled and would be generally sent to landfill sites where, because they do not decompose naturally, they can remain for hundreds of years.

Eco-solvent inks can be used for sustainable banner printing adding to the eco-friendly aspect – they produce superb, high-definition images that are eye-catching and effective for any business banner-marketing campaign.

There are other materials available for eco-friendly printing services that are less commonly adopted but still pertinent, like wood, aluminium and strengthened paper.
